    Hello all,

Can't tell you how helpful this site has been. I recently purchased a new HP laptop and have a few questions.

The computer came with a lightscribe drive and is removable since it also came with a empty filler for the optical drive. Is it ok to remove the drive and/or plug it in while the computer is on ?

Same thing w/ the battery... is it ok to pop the battery out when the computer is on AC power, or put the battery back in when the computer is plugged in ?

    Thanks

Both the disk drive and battery are hot swappable. However, I would recommend that unless there were an immediate need, that you turn the unit off and remove AC power prior to removing or installing a battery. From my own experience, disruptions, fluctuations, and transfers of a power source are rarely a good thing for computers and can often lend themselves to software/hardware issues.

The battery is hot swappable (obviously, provided you keep the laptop on AC while swapping it). Actually it is best to keep the battery out of the laptop when it's powered by AC, this increases its service life greatly.

The optical drive has an ATA interface, thus it is not hot-swappable.

ICH8M I/O chipset datasheet actually says ATA devices are hotswappable! I've confirmed being able to hotswap my 2510P's optical drive, though is best to use hotswap!'s Safely hotswap devices systray icon to do it as it disables the device prior to you removing it.
