OK a while ago I added an on-screen volume bar to my computer and followed the instructions in this thread. But now that I updated the quickplay button driver HP has its own on-screen volume bar. So I would like to get rid of the first one (ehtray.exe). However its not in add/remove programs and everytime I try to stop it from running in msconfig it doesn't let me disable it starting up saying that access is denied and I may need to logon to an Administrators account to make the change, which I am on an administrators account. So in a last ditch effort I deleted the files I downloaded( ehtray.exe and ehres.dll) but the volume bar still comes up. What else can I do?

You'll need to not only delete all traces of the program, but delete the registry files as well.
-
I have already begun searching the registry for any files associated with ehtray, I it safe to just delete them?
-
Do you have Win MCE or Home/Pro. If you have MCE then it is part of the OS itself. if you have Home/Pro just delete the entry from the Startup folder or uncheck the ehtray from msconfig, restart & then deleting the files should do the trick. AFAIK there shouldnt be any registry entries for that app.

errr i got a dv9000 and the latest version of quickplay yet i dont have an on-screen volume bar.....is the option on the dv6000 only??
on a side note to that, the instructions say u have to restart to get it to run but all i did was double click on ehtray.exe and loaded it and it worked, still i wonder if the reason i didnt get the volume upgrade was cuz my OS is Home and not MCE? how stupid of HP to only offer Home on their high end laptops in the middle east! -
This is also my concern in my previous post. I just forgot the command msconfig, and was reminded in this thread. Well, I open msconfig, uncheck the ehtray.exe, and then click apply. I first have the same report that said I have to be in administration account. But then the apply button is faded and I have to hit ok. It asked me to restart, so I restart. Guess what, I miss my on-screen volume bar now.
I'm using MCE, too -
msconfig is not working. everytime I uncheck it an Access Denied error comes up and tells me I need to logon to the computer Administrator account to do it. However, I am n the computer Administrator account. Oh yeah, I have XP Home.
Sideswipe to get the quickplay button driver you need to go onto HP.com and go to the Software and Driver downloads section. Then just type in your model number and the driver is called HP quick launch buttons, Date: 12, 2006; version: 6.1 B. -
hmmm i remember somewhere reading that on XP home and prof even tho u are in fact the admin, there is some restrictions applied to u that u have to uncheck to become a true-full control admin. Im on XP Home and havent faced this yet but never had to use msconfig so far so dunno maybe thatll happen to me too

which driver did you install and where did you download it from.
to get rid off ethray.exe, you just have to delete it from strtup, no add/remove or uninstall.
please let me know about quickplay driver, if it is better than ethray then I will also get it.
thanks
