Not sure if this falls under any other threads so I'm starting a new one.

There was an internet article http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/window-on-windows/?p=655

that describes how to remove the remnants of an SP1 install if you're satisfied with SP1, so I did.

Afterwards, when I start Vista, everything starts up pretty quickly then there is a long delay before RM Clock kicks in; plus there seems to be more disk and fan activity than before between the other startup stuff and RM Clock kicking in. If I disable RM Clock, I still get the increased disk and fan activity.

    Any suggestions/insights?

    Thanks!

Its not RMclock thats taking forever to load. Its waiting for windows to load the network crap which can be take up to 2mins.

If you are not connected to any sort of home network or sharing files with other computers. I suggest you use this standalone tweak #4 in this guide

Yeah, but I wasn't having any prob until I started messing around; oh well, decided to do a reinstall using the recovery disk this time (which suck a$$, by the way, they overwrote both the Vista and XP partitions  so I have to reinstall both    )

sorry to know the trouble you had with reinstallation.... I am also experiencing slow start-ups and slow copy file process ever since I installed SP1 thru WU. Do you think its because of extra files and backups that SP1 leaves behind.... Any other recommendations to make the vista sp1 startups faster???

Actually it was fine UNTIL I deleted the left-over SP1 files....

Could always do a clean install of Vista, foolowed by SP1 - that seems to work better than installing SP1 on an existinf Vista OS.
