    Hey Guys,

You helped me about four months back figuring out that my HD in my HP dv2500 was dead:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=3323114
and now I finally have the ambition and need to repair it.

I am not sure which kind of hard drive I would need as I got a replacement one from a friend that did not fit.
Here is what it looks like:

As well as a replacement drive how would I go along with loading a os onto it?

I know this thread is going to make me look like a complete asshat but I am not accustomed at all as to the workings of laptops.

Thanks for anyone who can help me out,
    Evan

I can’t tell from the picture why your friends HDD will not fit. Possibly it is not a SATA drive.

Either of these Western Digital SATA HDD will work for you. WD 250GB SATA HDD or WD 320GB SATA HDD

As for loading the OS onto it, you would use the Restore Disk’s you should have made when you first opened your notebook. That is the easiest way since your notebook will be restored back as it was delivered. You boot with Disk 1 and follow instructions.

If you didn’t make the Restore Disks you can purchase a set from HP, use a Retail or OEM version of the OS, borrow a set of Restore Disks for the same type of Notebook from a school buddy. There are many discussions here on how to do a clean install of an OS, with one very thorough article in the sticky on this forum Here.

I ended up getting this one:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136099

My friend had a xp install disk that he let me use because I hate xp but when I get towards the end of the install it says that it can not find a hd installed on the computer meanwhile if I run a hd test in the bios it can find it.
    Any suggestions?
