My laptop has been sent back to HP for repaired since July 25, part of the "HP Limited Warranty Service Enhancement". A customer relation manager called me last week and said that the part (motherboard) is back-ordered and he doesn't know when it will be available. He also mentioned that he'll discuss other "options" (without giving out more details) if I don't receive my laptop back by next week.

I guess the "options" will probably HP $ or replacement laptop.

I would like to know what you guys would suggest me, a realistic one of course :D

    1. Take the HP $

    2. Ask for a replacement such as dv2910ca http://h20386.www2.hp.com/canadastore/Product.aspx?pdetail=P65871

    3. Ask for a similar laptop but with a downgrade to XP

    4. Switch to an Intel based laptop.

    or any other suggestions?

The main spec for my dv2412ca is:

    1.7 GHz AMD Athlon64 X2 Dual-Core TK-53
    1024 MB DDR2 (2 Dimm)
    NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150
    160 GB (5400 RPM) SATA
    14.1" WXGA

Thanks for all of your help in advance. :)

If they might possibly replace it, they may as well give you a new dv4t instead of passing off another old one. I believe there already was an NBR user that had this happen.......

I doubt it, they will still have alot of dv2000's in-stock but if they do offer you a replacement, it will most likely be model alot better than your current.

    An update

Last Friday (Aug. 15) I called the case manager (he wasn't there on the 14th) he manage to offer me 2 different models of dv2000s at first In the end I asked him I would like the dv2890ca (he didn't mentioned at first) he accepted my demand, no negotiations or question asked

I received the laptop on August 20, which is quite fast imho. I was quite satisfy by how HP handled my situation. :) I think I'm fairly lucky after reading a lot of thread about horrible repair experience or maybe those who are satisfy are less likely to write their experience.

And a great thanks for those who voiced their opinions. :D

The main spec for my dv2890ca is:

    1.83 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T5550
    3072 MB DDR2 (2 Dimm)
    NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
    250 GB (5400 RPM) SATA
    14.1" WXGA
