    Hi

I want to reapply my thermal paste since my envy becomes hotter.
    Idle @ 60C (I guess this isn't normal, envy 15 first gen, i7 720QM)
What's the idle temp btw for envy 15? and load (100%)?

I've bought some arctix silver5 thermal paste. Now I've read some of you guys already repaste your cpu and gpu.
But I don't really know how much must be used. (most say like a grain of rice)
If you spread it, it must be as thin as possible, I know.
But is it normal you can see the cpu die itself through the paste? Or does it mean you did it wrong and used not enough termal paste?
Any pictures from correct applied thermal paste? (envy 15)

In regards to seeing the die, I believe AS5 is considered normal to be semi transparent. I have never quite got it that thin using a razor blade, but I have with other pastes. There should not be open holes in the paste itself you should know that paste is on the surface. I often get a little spot here and there have to go back over it, often caused by air pockets or the blade's imperfections.

One note is that if for some reason the contact surface isnt flush than the paste should be thick enough to ensure contact as needed. Otherwise as normally advised thin as possible.

With open, do you mean completely open, or a very thin layer?

if i repaste I will take shots of it, because i wonder if I do enough paste on the cpu

What i meant is there shouldnt be any spots where you can clearly see bare uncovered metal. As far as i remember the paste being thin enough to see through is considered normal if not ideal in perfect situations.
