I just bought a 2530p, with 1.8-inch 120GB hardisk. The partition is assigned as below.

    - 101GB for C:\
    - 9GB for D:\ (HP_Recovery )
    - 1GB for F:\ (HP_Tools)

I would like to replace existing 120GB HD with larger one, and would like to ask some question.

    1. what is the largest size of 1.8-inch hardisk for 2530p? I refer to "Service and maintenance information" manual, the hardisk size seems only up to 160GB, could I installed 260GB or even larger hardisk?

    2. Is it neceessary to keep the partition of HP_Tools or HP_recovery?
(if I delete the partition 'HP_Tools' or 'HP_recvoery', can the OS be booted up?)

Grateful if you could have an advice. Many thanks.

The 2530P uses 1.8" primary SATA disk. From what I can see the largest capacity at the moment is 160GB.

If you want more capacity, the cheaper route is to swap the DVD with the caddy (in the Service & Maintenance Guide). The caddy allows you to use a 2.5" drive, and also provides an extra external USB port. There's an adapter so the DVD can be used as an external usb DVD drive.

    Thanks a lot.

um....actually the built-in dvd/rw(all-in-one) with light weight(<3.5 lbs) is the main reason I choose 2530p rather than other brandname like IBM x200(without dvd/rw), so I prefer to keep the dvd/rw. However, it is useless if I change 160GB, only 40GB disk space more. Do u think is it worth of taking a risk to change the 120GB HD to the one larger than 160GB, says 250GB?

Or do someone have an experience to replace the 2530p's hardisk and know the maximum size it can support?

    Many thanks.

afaik, there r no 1.8" disks of more than 160GB volume, and the latter ones have appeared on the market only very recently. Just enjoy what you got for now and use an external usb disk (2.5" or 1.8") for your rarely used files.

You have the express slot.. so can use a E-sata expresscard to connect an external SATA drive to the slot and get full speed. USB is s-l-o-w.
