I have HP pavilion dv 4 1242 tx laptop. I have 320 GB HDD and want to replace with 500 GB HDD. I tried to open the HDD cover from back and I saw HDD in small caddy in which HDD was placed.
I do not know how to procedure further as I am afraid i might damage the inbuilt HDD during removal.
I need procedure on how to remove hdd from caddy with proper tips and precaution to be taken while doing so.
Currently having Fujitsu HDD.Also suggest me which HDD brand to go for??
P.S: I need HDD which is quiet and no clicking or any type of noise.

Should be 4 screws, 2 on each side, remove those. Attach the caddy to the new HDD and that's about it.

I first need to remove caddy screw and then HDD screws??
But caddy and HDD are fitted to connector then how to go about? -

Pull out the HDD from the system.
Remove the caddy by removing the screws on the side.
Insert new HDD into caddy.

Go through the system selection windows (notebooks, Pavilions, Dv4, etc.) until you get to your system, then scroll down the list of options until you find the FRU Remove/Replace icon (Field Replaceable Units).
Click on FRU, and it will open up the list for all FRU's for your system (pretty much everything). Click on Hard disk drive, and it will bring up not only the instructions/procedures for replacing it, it will show you a video demo on how to do it as well.
You can also get the Product # off the label under your system, then enter it in the field at this link: HP SUPPORT & DRIVERS
Select Support/Troubleshooting, the click on the double arrows - it will take you to the support page for your system configuration. Click on the Manuals link, then on the Maintenance and Service Manual link to get the PDF copy of your system service manual. It will also have the removal/replacement procedures. -
Thanks cybervision for your reply..Links proved me helpful.
