    Hey guys,

After reading some reviews on the current SSDs in market, I decided to purchase the OCZ Agility 3, which has been rated well in performance only lower to the Vertex 3. I purchased a 60gb.

I wish to replace the 7200rpm HDD on the dv6tqe I recently ordered, which should arrive next week. How would I go about creating a recovery drive, and drivers etc?

Also, if anyone has also replaced the HDD with an SSD please leave some of your experiences here. Is the computer performance significantly faster? Any modifications to run faster, etc.

    Thanks for the help!

There was a thread where somebody replaced their HDD a while ago.

I think you have to make a recovery disc first, install the SSD and re-install windows from the recovery disc.

Are you sure 60gb is enough though?

    Step 1: make recovery disk
Step 2: backup swsetup folder on the c:\ drive
    Step 3: backup data
    Step 4: swap drives
    Step 5: run recovery DVDs.

You could also try cloning your entire drive to the ssd if you want. Then you would get to keep the built in recovery partitom

Yeah, I think 60gb will suffice for me. I'll be using the laptop mostly as a workstation for web-surfing, word-processing and some light graphic design. Just want it to be fast and responsive.

I plan on saving all of my documents and files on an external hard drive by buying a 2.5" enclosure for the 750gb HDD which comes with the laptop.

I am in the same boat as OP as I just bought a dv6t and I want to install a SSD. The only difference is I may want to just do a clean install of Windows. Is this possible with the serial number that we get from HP or would I need a brand new copy. Getting a new copy wouldn't be terrible for me because I can get a student discount.

My only concern with a fresh install is installing drivers as I understand that there some drivers from HP are needed after a clean install. Sorry if this has already been covered, just confused as to the whole process.

You can use the key provided by HP. Just will have to call MS to activate. It will tell you to call when you go to activate.

Is it possible to remove the optical drive and install a second HDD? Has anyone tried this?

The optical drive is SATA and 12.7mm, newmodeus.com should sell one. Can probably buy one on eBay but I'd avoid it even though it's cheaper, because descriptions on them are deceiving. I bought one for my previous laptop, but it wasn't as expected, I could return it for an exchange but had to pay shipping back to China.. So better to just buy from a reasonable seller.
