is there any simple guide how to replace the thermal paste on the ati 6770m on hp dv6?
what i can see from the users, there are alot of them has heating issue..
My laptop is on shipping to my place, and i'm planning to do a repasteon my graphic card and push my card to the limit for benchmarking![]()
thanks ahead!

I second this, i would like to replace the paste on mine as long as it is not to difficult to do.

Some entrepreneurial person WITH EXPERIENCE, should start a business and offer the service. -
thats kinda dissemble everything on that system and put em back again.
is there any easier guide or video how to dissemble the specific parts only for replacing the thermal paste?
I used to replace the thermal paste on my alien m15x and msi gx640, open up the backpanel and directly i could see the heatsink lol..
thanks -
You need to pretty much disassemble everything to repaste. The DV6 is not a easily upgradable gaming notebook.
-
that doesn't sound good to us

HP dv6 complete disassembly and reassembly. 2011 Laptop - YouTube
It is not the exact same laptop like those with "beats audio" but it is similar enough to get an idea of the disassembly process. -
You have to remove almost everything to get to the motherboard:battery, disk drive, hard drive, ram, wlan card, keyboard, cover plate,a few connectors...and then you can remove the motherboard. Then the heatsink/fan assembly has to be removed from the mb. I've had mine apart (dv6-6135dx) apart 3 times in the past 3 weeks doing thermal repastes and cpu swaps. I can get it apart in 10 minutes. You just have to keep your screws seperate as they are not all the same size. I just just followed the instructions in the service manual. Now I don't even need it.

Besides, the heat is only an issue when you get to the point of over-volting. Repasting isn't going to make that much difference in temps. -
ah okay..
ill make a report as soon as i receive my laptop (abt 10days time though )
i still have some artic mx-4 and tuniq tx-3, these are the best improvement cooling thermal paste i've had before -
To much hassle for me, guess ill just buy a decent cooling pad
-
just finished repasting the thermal paste guys
using artic mx-4! its been running really great haha
my gpu temp idling at 41-42c, cpu running at 40-41c room temp at 24c (cool at coolsense mode)
id try to run crysis 2 oc'd at 850/1000 and lets see how it goes..
Temp previously was about 91-93c (coolsense at optimized performance) tho.
Whats your temp on idling and max temp guys?
-
just ran crysis2 abt 20mins oc'd at 850/1000 gpu max temp at 86c and cpu i7-2820qm maxed at 92c.. (hp coolsense at optimized performance) room temp at 24c.
i am satisfied on my result though
i was running like 90c+ during gaming on crysis -,-
i tried once running crysis2 on coolest mode hp coolsense and i was getting about 88-90c..
now i am getting 85-86c on optimized performance mode lol.
edit: I stick 2 copper ram on top of the gpu heatsink
btw after assembling my laptop back i still left with 3 unused screw lol.
but everything works perfect so i didn't open up and place em back lol..
could you guys post your idling and oc'd during gaming temps?
thanks ahead -
anyone please?
-
hmmm numbers dont seem to justify me re pasting my cpu and gpu, then again ive only had my DV7t for about 2 months now, and when i overclock my 6770m 1gb to 850/950 i get max temps of like 86C(with coolsense on performance) with the witcher 2
ive previously re-pasted my ps3 with great success as it use to run very hot, but now it runs as cool as a cucumber
ill wait till a more elaborate video disassemble comes out, as i feel like the video posted here wasnt as informative, like ive found ones explaining how to re paste my ps3 -
-
The only hard part of disassembling is flexing the base cover to make clearance for left side connectors. Others is pretty easy IMO.
-
easy indeed..
Could anyone post your max temp running formark oc at 850/1000 for 10mins please? Coolsense at optimize performance.
Id like to compare yours and my system which i just repasted the thermal paste.
Thanks alottt guys -
coolsense at optimized performance?
whats your room temp mate? -
Thats great temp mate!
I just repasted the thermal paste again with copper shim mod.
max temp was 92c after 12mins running furmark..
I believe mine is slightly higher (abt 5c) is because of my cpu i7 2820qm which has the same fan connection between the cpu and gpu heatsink pipe.
but thats ok when i switch the coolsense to coolest mode, it won't exceed more than 90c -
You guys should take some pictures of the heatsink to see if they vary from one to the other since they have different part numbers(Quad core, 2gb 6770m 1gb 6770m). I plan on replacing the paste when i get my computer if the temps are high. BTW I know this may not be the right place to question this but you guys are say overclocking the core increase temps a lot but increase the memory clock doesn't affect temperatures, right? Well wouldn't that be caused since the temperature is being taken from the core and if the memory are heating up it's not detected plus there is no cooler for the memory... so be careful since when memory overheats once it begins to artifact. Then again i'm new to this and i hope to get more info from this forum. For those getting artifacts from overclocking vram i'd suggest a heatsink might help and they don't cost much i think.
