It just looks like they show you how to take the whole top half off but dont show you how to remove the LCD. If I do what they show and remove the top half will the rest just come apart?

When replacing LCD's on HP/Compaq units, it's just a matter of pulling the entire LCD (front bezel and back cover) off completely and replacing the whole thing. HP/Compaq does not provide just the LCD itself. They will ship you the Front bezel, hinges, LCD panel, LCD back cover, all wiring (for wireless and LCD) & all emblems as one whole unit. I guess this way, the installation can't be screwed up by anyone. They even ship it this way to Authorized HP/Compaq Repair Centres.

But regarding your issue, it's possible there's some double sided tape holding the front bezel to the LCD itself. Also, there might be some screws on the side of the LCD, if not, then it's just some latches holding it in place (around the outer edges). Usually when I replace the LCD's on units (other brands), I usually just put a little bit of force and "rip" it off (carefully of course). This usually gets it off and after it's replaced, it just snaps back into place. Just don't break any of the latches as this will screw up the bezel (won't hold onto back cover).

Personally, IMHO, I wouldn't recommend doing this yourself unless you have experience replacing notebook LCD's. One small mistake and you could be out another few hundred dollars.

Hey, linco (or anyone else, for that matter), would you mind telling me where you found a replacement LCD screen for the ZV5000 -- and at what price? I have a ZV5220 with a cracked screen, and I want to get it fixed. Depending on the cost and the complexity of the repair, I may do it myself or try to send it off. I'd imagine I could save quite a bit of money by doing it myself, but if it's THAT difficult of a repair, it may not be worth the risk.

    Thanks!
