Hi, I need a replacement battery for my laptop. Windows 7 reports that I should "Consider replacing your battery" and the thing won't hold its charge for more than 15 minutes.
I am wondering if there is a known "best" brand for buying a replacement.
I can get a "Superb Choice" 6-cell off Amazon for $40, TinyURL.com - shorten that long URL into a tiny URL
I could also get an Atbatt battery for $35, TinyURL.com - shorten that long URL into a tiny URL
Or I could a Leydon from Battdepot for $47, TinyURL.com - shorten that long URL into a tiny URL
Or I could get Boston Power "Green Series" from battdepot for $57, TinyURL.com - shorten that long URL into a tiny URL
Ahh! So many choices.
I appreciate your advice, and I apologize if this has been asked before. I was not successful with the search function.

Well - consider that you are buying a laptop battery here... not a car. IMO, I wouldn't worry too much over the "brand" since whatever you do buy is going to outlive the laptop anyway.
But if you want to get right down to it: OEM replacement parts are almost always the preferred choice, IMO. Any of what you mention above, would surely suit your needs well. Though, I am certain that you could likely find user reviews on the same pages as the item desciptions. Might be a good guage to go by. -
LOL - yea, I guess it looks like I've shopped this to death. I really just wanted to know if there were "dud" laptop battery brands out there that would die within an hour and be unusable within a year.

Well you can't really know.. it's a matter of luck, when buying a laptop battery online, look at the site, see that it looks reliable enough to use a credit card on..
I would go for the bigger batteries if you ask me..
good luck -
Before you go out to buy a new battery, consider checking out the HP driver support.
For my dv9000 series, they had a BIOs update that "Fixes an issue where a message that says to replace the battery is incorrectly displayed when upgrading the operating system to a Microsoft Windows 7 Operating System"
I'm not sure what specific model you have but I've looked at the dv6000 CTO model and it had a BIOS update to fix the same problem too.
If you're still getting the message after the update, then it may be time to replace but always check to see how much run time you're getting also.
Hope that helps. -
