I am looking to replace the CPU in my Compaq evo n610c

It currently has a 1.8ghz pentium 4m in it, which the intel processor identification utility identifies as Mobile Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 - M CPU 1.80GHz

I am lead to believe that this particular CPU is very unefficent and unsuited for notebook use - specifically, my notebook almost constantly requires the fan on, and runs VERY hot.

This may be a naive question, but is there a smaller, more efficent CPU that I can just replace my current CPU with?

I'm thinking that any other CPU that you replace it with will either be another Mobile Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 - M (1.2GHz-2.6GHz) or an equivalent Celeron which will probably only result in less performance or a bit more heat but with more performance as these CPUs generally run at the same voltage. See link --> 00

Has it always run as hot as it is running now? If not, then you can try clean out the fan/vents for dust. And since you might be willing to open up your laptop, you could probably apply "arctic silver" or something if it might help to dissipate heat.
