    Hi guys,

Recently my HP has been getting very hot, and the fan is becoming VERY audible.

I recently got a bootup error about the system fan malfunctioning and to contact HP.

I am wondering, instead, could I buy a higher quality 80mm fan and install it into the module?

    Thanks.

Only if it's a desktop... it won't fit in a laptop.

It's possible that laptop has overheated due dust built into the fan assembly and it has been so hot that the bearings in the fan itself have started to make noise and soon after that they fail.

Well if its under warranty return it. If it isn't you could look for a replacement on ebay but I'm not 100% sure that the fan is removable from the heatsink in your model.
