Hi Everyone, I just joined and here is my story and a few questions.

Three years ago next month I bought a Presario R3000t. It had a Mobile P4 3.0mhz chip, 512mb mem, 64meg Ati 9600pro videocard, 80gig HD and CD/DVD combo drive. Luckly I got the 3yr accident protection plan. I paid about $1700 for it at the time.

Last month it was wrecked and sent for repairs. HP case manager called me back and said it could not be fixed and they would have to order me a brand new lappie. They wanted to send me a Presario V6000t with intel 950 intergrated graphics. Needless to say I argured with them for two weeks that I played games on my laptop and demanded something equal to my old Ati 9600pro.

I finally convinced them to order me an HP dv6000t with the Go7400. This is what I talked them into after 2 weeks of debate.

    – Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium
    – Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo T5600 (1.83 GHz/2MB L2Cache)
    – 15.4" WXGA Widescreen with BRIGHTVIEW (1280x800)
    – NVIDIA 256mb GeForce™ Go 7400
    – HP Imprint Finish + Microphone + Webcam
    – 2048MB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    – 120 GB SATA Hard Drive
    – LightScribe DVD/CD Burner
    – Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection, with BLUETOOTH
    - 6 Cell and 12 Cell Lithium Ion Batteries
    - Recovery disk for Vista Home Premium

It is due this week and I have a few questions please.

1 - Is the go7400 better or worse than my old 9600pro ?

    2 - How does the T5600 compare to the P4 3.0 ?

3 - I wanted to stay with XP home but got stuck with Vista. If I buy an XP Home restore disk from HP parts for a dv6000t can I RESTORE my new dv6000t to XP using my keycode from my old R3000t XP disk ? The dv6000t's they were shipping last month have the same hardware as this month except for Vista. Is this possible ????

The dv6000t looks like a nice laptop and I hope it works for me.

    Thanks

I'm gonna go ahead and take this as a serious question, and just say that your new laptop annihilates your old one. completely and utterly.

Also, i'm not sure how the restore disc would work on a different laptop. i dont think it will work honestly.

All you would need is a regular xp disc, even download a clean one. then just use your key from the bottom of your old lappy.

i do it all the time. :)

It is a serious question and I'm not sure about "annihilating" my old one. The P4 ran at 3.0mhz and the T5600 only runs at 1.8mhz and dual-core doesn't due much for games. Also the 9600pro is a fast videocard and is a 4-pipe 128bit part vs the low-end go7400 being only 64bit with 4-pipes. The first thing I plan to do is to run 3D Mark 05 and find out.

That's my point, it would be the exact same laptop. The only diff is Vista vs XP.
The $20 for the restore disk would be worth it to me to keep from having to track-down and re-install all the drivers

I have a buddy with almost the same setup you had. a 7200 rpm drive as well. personally i thought it was a dog, but you'll see when you get it i guess.

the 7400 is a great card for gaming without spending a million dollars.
you can go check out the thread in the video card forum dedicated to the 7400 and the games people have run with their results and info.

i think you will be pleased.

Oh, i dont know. I guess if they give you an option to order an XP recovery disc, even though the laptop comes with Vista, theoretically, your old XP key should work.

If you want to get a "clean" install however, you'll need an xp disc. which isnt too hard to find, or if you know someone that has one...

I'll post the 3Dmark05 results when I get to run them.
