Anybody know when there's going to be a refresh or replacement to the nx9420 17" business class notebook, or its 15" counterpart? Specifically it needs a Radeon x1700 because the x1600 is dated.

The X1700 is only supposed to be a lower powered part. Test show that the X1600 and the X1700 are neck and neck in terms of gaming performance.

Personally, I'd guess that it might be updated when Santa Rosa comes out (I think this month). If we're lucky, the entire HP Compaq business line will be updated with DX10 graphics cards as well.

since they are still not listed with Vista and being a business class system I doubt before Q4 of this year at the earliest. Business class systems tend to be a fair bit behind consumer systems. How fast business users adopt Vista will likely have an effect too...and given the lack of compelling reasons for business users to move to Vista I am thinking HP is not in any hurry to re-invent a solid system. Plus systems with a stable config mean less support overhead to HP and thus an increase in the bottom line for the model.

It is possible that if HP switched up to a new model with Vista it could die on the vine again do to the rate business users are or are not moving to Vista.

Isn't the NX9420 only about a year old? Or were they out before last March?

why don't you get the model with the quadro that is equivalent with the 7900gs?

Right now the nx9420 is about $1650 with the x1600. Is that a good deal? I plan on taking the notebook with me just about everywhere, so would the 17" get on my nerves for being too big? I used to own the zd7000 and I loved it, and took it everywhere with me.

I'm curious about the 512MB nVidia Quadro GPU, is it better in games or would the x1600 be better?

Nope, Santa Rosa doesn't come out until April or May.

More is pointing to May, me thinks.

    No.

Quadro cards are NOT made for gaming. For the most part, the Quadro isn't usually able to read the game's code properly to play them.

If the quadro is equivalent to the 7900gs, then why don't they offer the 7900gs in the computer as an alternative to the x1600?
