HP has given me a fourth shipping date for my replacement hard drive (under warranty).* It went from January 31st, to February 14th, to February 28th, now to March 13th. They have no explanation as to why they don't have a replacement in stock other than "things are backed up a little."
I finally got to talk to a case manager after trying to get a hold of one for a few weeks and it sounded like March 13th wasn't even a sure date.* Why are they giving me dates when they don't know this for sure?
The drive I need replaced is product number #MXK171-01, it's for a DV2000t, and it's a 5400RPM, 120Gig drive.* They said they'll try to send me a temporary replacement (product #NMD036), but he still wasn't clear about that and said they "MIGHT" be able to send that to me on March 5th.* MIGHT!
He said if I can find a replacement elsewhere, they MIGHT be able to refund me.* I'm never going to get my hard drive.* I'm failing school because of it! Blargh!
Any ideas?

Just get an HDD from NewEgg and ask HP for a refund. Well, I can't believe HP is so slow sometimes.

If you are going to get a hard drive, you should get this one if your wallet lets you.

Here is a thread about this drive.

Must be 5400RPM, 120 gig (or less) and fit into my laptop.
I have a Western Digital 120 gig portable hard drive. Is there any way I could load Windows Vista onto that and work with it for awhile? -
You have to tell your bios to boot off the external hard drive. So it depends if your bios will let you.
That hard drive should fit. -
Im curious as to why the drive has to be 5400 and 120gig? Is that the only way HP would refund? -
If you are able to access the ORIGINAL HD:
Go to BB and get "Acronis". Then go to New Egg and pick up a HD and external USB 2.0 case ($7). Put the new HD in the case, install Acronis on the computer and then hit "clone drive". Remove the the new HD from the case and install into the computer and simply reboot.
I assume you can get to files via "safe mode" or you have them backed up?
If you CAN'T access the HD, go to BB....I saw the 160 GB and 120 GB Pata/Sata HD for $69......hopefully you made or have an OS disk. Then when you get the HD from HP get and external case/Acronis and back up everything to it using "clone drive"....I would suggest doing this no matter what....so if your HD craps out again, you simply swap drives and reboot...all of 5 minutes and you don't lose a thing. -
The external drive is a static hard drive, so that can't be done. The hard drive must be 5400 RPMs and 120 Gigs and they 'might' refund.
Are all of these drives recommended above able to fit into the DV2000t?* How do I know if it will fit, or are all notebook hard drives pretty much the same size?
I lost everything on my drive.* Took it to Geek Squad and they found nothing recoverable (although it seems like they have an easy job by saying that and making money).
I have a recovery disk for Windows Vista Home Premium, is that as good as the original installation DVD? -
You could do a system restore using the recovery disks but it will ensure that all the bloat ware gets onto the system as well. It could be good if you do a clean install using the guide stickied at the top of this forum. As you do not have a backed up copy of your Windows activation key you could call up Microsoft and ask for another key! In the long run a clean install is lot more helpful that the recovery disks.

All is good everyone. They ended up sending me a Seagate 5400 RPM, 120 Gig drive as opposed to a Western Digital. Don't know why they just didn't do that in the first place instead of waiting for the Western Digital one to come in. Lamesville. Thanks all.
