Where can I purchase replacement parts for the dv5t motherboard without spending an arm or a leg. I spilled coffee on the and now it's pretty much toast. It won't even start up.

Very simply, you can't. Part manufacturers don't sell to end customers. You might be able to hire a company other than HP to repair it and it might be cheaper, but other than that no deal, I think.

You can call up HP Total Care and buy and Accidental Damage Plan if your laptop is in warranty. It will cost you near about $20 extra with an ESP (Extended Service Plan) which also means extended warranty.

How about if it is already bought without warranty? And the people at HP told you the warranty that you have... doesn't cover liquid in especially coffee in the motherboard? :( :( :(

So you wanted to upgrade your processor, you couldn't? Wow more reason to stick to a desktop.

I would not bother trying to repair it . . . even if you replace some parts, some others may be bad. It will end up costing more than a new notebook.

I am not sure if it's legal to get the accidental warranty after the fact, then make a claim.

I believe you can purchase a new system board from the HP Parts store. You can get around 40-45% off the purchase price if you return your mother board.

A list of dv5t laptops. Just select yours to see the parts available:

    http://h20141.www2.hp.com/hpparts/S...687&SearchId=3744188&Level=5&ParentID=3744187

Grab the dv5 service and maintenance guide here:

    http://antair.org.ua/dv5-sm.pdf

I was able to successfully disassemble my dv5t-1000 using this guide.

There's always ebay... I've found quite a few replacement parts for one of my dv5000 and found parts for my dv9700 as well. Just get the HP service manual for yours. It has replacement part numbers listed in it.
