I am looking into replacing my Hitachi GWA-4080N optical drive with a dual layer drive. The laptop is a dv1040. HP will sell me one for a mere $380! I can find laptop optical drives at places like Newegg.com. Users report they fit various HP and Compaq laptops. Is there any way cross-reference the various optical drives against each other? Is there any way to determine if the various units at places like Newegg will fit?

    Thank you
