The speakers on my dv4000 are really having problems now. There's a lot of static electricity where I am staying now and everytime I touch the laptop, the speakers are affected and sound low and distorted for a few minutes. When they recover, they sound thrashy and distorted when they are played high. They've been sounding like this since the day I got them.

I was wondering if there is a way to pay for an upgrade to the Altec Lansing speakers now on the newer version of the dv4000 which didn't come with this one. Anyone have any idea?

    Thanks.

Should it be covered by the warranty if it is still effective.

It should. But can I get an upgrade to the Altec Lansing speakers for a price?

I'd ask HP when you get the defective speakers replaced - they might do if for a price though. However, have you used laptop speakers on med-high volume settings when you got the laptop?
