Has anyone done this on a dv6500t or dvxxxx model? I've followed the instructions on the manual, but most of the required components to be removed seem superfluous at best - things such as the display and hard drive/memory.
I'd love to do this, as I'm really experienced building desktops, but the whole laptop-proprietary stuff is really discouraging. Does this void the warranty? oO
Is it worth applying Arctic Silver 5 in the first place? The fan is driving me nuts.

you normally have to remove the hard drive because some of the screws that hold it in hold some plastics down that you need to remove.
I am a dell fan, but that is only because i have tried all other brands. And i have always found hp's to run extremely hot. Thus, i give them the nickname HP= Hot Plastic -
I also wonder about doing hte Arctic Silver thermal compound to replace the OEM thermal transfer material.
I overclocked my G4 Mac Mini and used Arctic Ceramic thermal compound for CPU and GPU. It runs 24x7 and the fan almost never goes on, even when rendering Google Earth and other taxing processes.
I am taking my Vostro 1500 to the South Pole for a year, and want it to be optimized, quiet and stable.
Anyone else replaced the thermal conduits in their Vostro/Inspirons? Better, worse, not worth it? -
Part of me thinks it'd be safer to go with a Notebook cooler, but I'd hate to lug that thing around.
