    Hey guys,

I bought an HP Pavillion dv3000 some years ago and although I'm pretty happy with it, it is getting harder to ignore how hot it gets even with the video card and the CPU running as low as possible.
This laptop has an nVidia 8400M GS and from what i hear those chips have been recalled in many cases (I remember a Dell m1330 fiasco). Unfortunately, my warranty is long gone and I couldn't get the HP reps to acknowledge a problem take a look at my laptop.

Anyways, I wouldn't even mind the fan running all the time if it wasn't so damn loud. It's so loud people turn their heads to see what's happening. So, I want to maybe change/upgrade the fan and I want to ask for advice.

How standard are those fans? How easy is it to buy a similar fan but with better parameters (faster, quieter, etc.)? There was a fix for the Dell laptops involving a disassembly of the heatsink and applying new thermal paste or something (can't remember exactly) - has anyone tried anything like that on HP laptops with nVidia cards?

Anyways, I would really appreciate any help.

    Thanks!
