Hello, the new DV6's, DV7's have nice softer mousepad buttons. I used a friends trackpad and it was amazing compared to the hard and noise clicking on the older models, I was wondering if we could simply replace the button mechanism and maybe without removing the whole part (which I may still consider, although we'd lose the trackpad light).
    Thanks!

From what I can tell, the touchpad module is a single unit. This is how it is on my DV6 3143, and it appears the same way on yours per the parts manual.

also here on the newer DV6 parts manual

I do not think the newer touchpads would be compatible with the older models, but I might be mistaken. It would require it to be the exact same size/shape, same mounting clips, and same connectors. I cannot tell from the parts manuals.

Some HP parts are interchangeable (I am using a 45 Watt heatsink on a 35 watt system), but usually between the same generation models.

In short, I doubt it. But you could put the laptops side by side and see if the touchpads are the same dimensions. Then you could disassemble them and see if it will work.

EDIT - on a similar note, I use the program twofingerscroll. It allows two finger right click, and smoother scrolling. So I single tap for left click, two finger tap for right click, and no longer need to click the trackpad. Much better IMO.
