If you've read my other posts, you'd know that I put the order in for my zv5000z on friday. Scheduled shipping date of Nov. 4. Can't fault Staples for HP's delays in the building dep't.
Anyway, I ordered the notebook with the 15.0" TFT XGA (1024x768) instead of the widescreen because, well, the widescreen view makes me feel like I'm looking at my computer through a rear-view mirror. I just couldn't wrap my head around it. While I'm happy that I get the aspect ratio I like, the downside is that I'm stuck in low-resolution land.
So I've been scheming. I'm toying with the idea of replacing the LCD screen with a 15.0 UXGA panel. like one maybe out of a Thinkpad or something. Anyone ever consider this/try this? What challenges did you run into? Is this even a viable idea? Assume that I'm ok with voiding the warranty. Wait, what am I saying? ;)
Thanks in advance for your quality responses.

I'm sorry to say that your scheming will not benefit you. The LCD's from different manufacturers have different pin layouts and power connectors & power requirements. Plugging the wrong LCD into your LCD power inverter may damage the LCD & not to mention possibly the notebook. Not only that, the screw hole configuration will be different. I used to repair notebooks so I've seen LCD's from other manufacturers and they're not interchangable. You can try buying an UXGA LCD for your specific notebook (if it's even available from HP) from eBay. You can then make the change yourself, otherwise you're out of luck.
