I was trying to get the computer to stop taking nearly a third of my RAM for video and accidentally set the onboard video to disabled. Is there any way to re-enable it without having to take apart the whole computer? The laptop is a Compaq Presario F557WM with an AMD Turion 64 MK-36 @ 2.0 GHz, 1.5GB RAM, nVidia nForce 430 chipset with GeForce Go 6100 video.

It should be in the BIOS, I suppose that's how you got it disabled

Actually, you don't have a dedicated GPU, what do you mean you disabled the onboard video?

In the BIOS, it gives four options for video memory allocation. 32, 64, and 128 MB, and Disabled. I meant to set it to 128 but accidentally set it to Disabled.

You probably disabled Shared Memory. See if this works, remove all sources of power - battery, AC, USB devices etc, then hold down the power button for 20-25 seconds, then boot.

Did you keep the Power Button pressed ? I don't know of any other way, except shotting the CMOS jumper.

Why not just re-enable the video memory allocation in the BIOS ?!

The screen stays black. It doesn't do a thing. The computer beeps three times and just sits there.

oops, you should've started with this one. 3 beeps and no screen is a good indicator of a Motherboard problem. You may have to call HP

The comp lives again. I don't know if it was disconnecting what I'm guessing is the CMOS battery or removing the ram and turning on the computer with the RAM removed and battery disconnected. I reconnected the battery and reinstalled the RAM and it powered up with no problem at all.
