In my HP laptop, by default from factory. They partitioned my 80 gb SATA into 66 gb for C: & 8 GB for d:.
I want to resize it to 20gb for c: and rest for D:.
But i was told that resizing partition for SATA hard-disk is very risky and might cause some failure. I dont know if its true or not. Somone pls comment.

D is the recovery partition. Partition Magic can create new partitions within Windows.

I would create the 4 dvd recovery disc or the 23 cd recovery discs then delete the the recovery data (use the recovery tool to destroy the data) and then use partition magic to resize.
IT is VITAL that you make the recovery discs first before you mess with partition changes.

Little tip.... a dos/linux based partitioning tool run from a cold boot is the way to go.
When you run thru windows there is more a chance of something screwing up. (Yes I know the machine reboots to access the partition(s) once the changes are selected... so the parititioning part is really not being done "in" windows..)
If you do run such a program via windows, shut down ALL uneeded programs running in the background. -
Imaging the hard drive with the stupid bloatware OS install the mfg puts on it, Or after doing a fresh install.
Neat thing about Arconis is you can create your OWN version of the "restore" partition.... Which means you can do a fresh install, install your apps.... and create both on cd/dvd, or on the hard drive itself images..... Or to an external hard drive images....
Nice thing about that is upon a restore the system is all set up the way you need it!
Or create an Acronis True image ""Secure Zone", which creates a restore /recovery partition on the disc.... You pressing F11 anytime you'd like to restore to the last good working install..... Usefull if you don't have your restore disc's handy.
Another good thing about Arconis/Ghost is you can make as MANY images /backups as you want.... at ANY time, thereby having mulitple restore images.
You can create as many "restore/recovery" discs as you want... Compared to "only" being allowed to create (1) set with the HP recovery disc creator.
NOTE: In case someone is dead set on making the "offical" recovery discs and your discs' have been lost, or damaged I saw an app on HP's site that allows you to make (1) more recovery disc set.
