Can I use a restore disc for a HP dv6000t CTO (XP Pro) to place XP Pro on a HP dv6275us (Vista Home Premium)? Or do the restore discs only restore one specific model of notebook?

It is specific to a model of the notebook. You can use the dv6000t CTO restore disc on another dv6000t CTO machine but it cannot be used for the retail versions of the same series.

Miner is right, they are made for specific models in the series and are not interchagable.

Thanks for the info! If I purchase a dv6275us (Vista Premium) and want to go to XP for a few months (my software won't yet run on Vista), then the only way would be to do a clean install (I have new XP Pro CD), but since not all the XP drivers for 6000 series are on HP site, I would have to locate a recent XP 6000 series notebook and copy the C:\SWsetup folder to DVD. So obtaining the correct drivers for a clean install would be the problem. Is this correct?

Most of the drivers should be still available online. The SWSetup folder is not strictly necessay but it will be easier to have that folder just in case. Also since you have a SATA HDD you will have to either slipstream the SATA drivers into the XP disc or disable SATA in the BIOS then install XP.
