When you need to return your notebook for the same one because of a defect do you get to keep the one your using until your new one comes? I'm guessing no. There is a dead pixel in my screen and it is driving me nuts but I really don't want to have to go another 2.5 weeks without a notebook. I'm afraid shipping will encounter the same delays as it did to get here the first time. Does anyone have any experience with HP returns. I'm sure they probably need the computer back before they build me the new one.

OK so i get my computer. It has a stuck pixel. I call to try and and return it. They want to charge my card an additional $260 dollars because I used a coupon but they say they will return the money once the card is shipped. Thats not the worst part. I ordered my computer on July 5 and it was built on the july 7. It didn't come until July 23. Well on my exchanged computer she said the estimated build date is August 18th. I move into school August 22. I really don't have that kind of time. I told them that and they were of no help to me what so ever. It wouldnt be so bad if I didn't have to ship the computer I have now back right away. But I just waited almost 3 weeks to get my computer why would I wait another month to get to use. They got their money and its all that they care about.
Ill just freaking live the stuck pixel. I only notice because I am picky and it is the center of damn screen. Dang I never been so pissed in my life.

Just return it then. 21-days no questions asked. Or next time you call, just hang up and try again to see if you can get the next person to do what you request. Works all the time :p

They were ready to accept my return but I can't live with out a laptop now that I have one. I don't got the time to wait until August 18th build day. What are the chances of them letting me keep the computer I have until I receive the replacement? And I was going to try not to return to but i just started watching a movie and the blue dot is in the center of the screen. I need to return it no matter what I'm going to call back tomorrow but it will be nice if they let hold on to it while they are building the replacement.

You don't recommend HP because you can't wait for a replacement? Hm.

I have bought 5 laptops from HP direct and returned 2 for refund because they were defective.

they will not let you hang on to the old laptop until the replacement arrives. your only option is to return it and either order another one or buy one from somewhere else. it will be less hassle to return for refund rather than waiting until after the 21-days and sending it in for repairs.

if you need a replacement immediately, you can order a quickship model or buy one from a retail store.

When you order a computer its supposed to work with no flaws. If you have to return it you should expect a speedy return, not one that will take a month. Thats ridiculous. They had no problem yesterday applying the charge to my credit card to build my new pc. I don't see why I need to be charged at all. I already payed them and if I send the damn computer back right away they will be returned all their money.

Not very realistic. But I'm sure you know that and just want to rant.

In the future though, please keep rants to one thread and don't start a thread per rant.

Quick Question. So I went with the exchange cause I would never be satisfied. The estimated ship date is August 18th but if I were to just outright order the comp myself the estimated ship date is August 10th. I put my returned comp in the mail that Friday so they processed my order that day and then I noticed it was dropped to factory later that night. It now says order in production. Do you think I should expect it before August 18th. I just don't see how someone just ordering their computer can get it so much sooner then I could since I was doing an exchange. I basically bought a new computer cause they recharged my card and still didn't refund all my money.

just an FYI, screen warranties usually carry some kind of disclaimer about the number of tolerated dead/stuck pixels. I've seen the number as high as seven but three seems to be pretty common.

And, there is no way anyone here can guess at the production lines, shipping, customer clearance, and final delivery times/schedules. You are at the mercy of not just HP, but FedEx and US Customs too.

Waiting until the last moment to mail-order a high-tech device that gets shipped in from China is pretty silly. Did you check out all of the retail shops in your area? Sometimes local sales prices are better than the on-prices and you have your equipment in hand immediately.

If you spent over $1000 dollars on a computer you would not tolerate a stuck/dead pixel in the dead center of your screen.

And excuse me? You call July 5th last minute for a computer needed by roughly August 22.

Last minute, yes I do. There are plenty of nightmare examples of customs delays in shipping and orders being delayed after the fact for parts shortages. Most especially this time of year with a bazillion people ordering new machines for back to school.

It matters not what I or you think about stuck pixels. All that matters is the makers published warranty. That is the contract document.

When I ordered an envy for a friend (this happened to mine too) they needed It before he started summer classes... I ordered it in april and it said it wouldnt be shipped until the 3 of june.... about 4 days before that date they shipped it and it had a eta of june 9... on the 3rd day it shipped it said that it got a customs delay and I looked up on the web and fourms said it could take 1day to a week. My friend got soo pissed.... But one day later he had the laptop at his door step...

If you really need something while you're waiting, you can buy another laptop from Costco and you have the option of returning it within 90-days, no questions asked. If you decide you like the Costco laptop better than your replacement HP order, just return that one to HP for refund.

Is processor whine covered in the 1-year HP warranty? I want to send it back to get the processor fixed, but dont want to use the 21-day return because i would have to order a new one at +$400.

    Thanks.

No you wont have to pay an extra $400. Tell them it is defective. They will apply the coupon to your new order. They tried to swindle me into paying an extra $300 for mine but I told them no way. I was like How come I have to pay more for a computer I just bought that doesn't work. Why can't I just be charged the same price. After calling and hanging up 3 times they finally did what I wanted them to do. They still owe me $50 dollars and they said they credited it to my account but it's not there yet. You just have to keep nagging.

I wound up buying a second notebook because I didn't want to be without one. The second one ended up being worse than the first one and sent that one back. I was told I'd get a return extension for the first one and have verified that a couple of times. The sad thing is, they wont let me buy a third one, yet.
