I recently purchased an HP 6515b, great laptop, durable, well built, can't complain. Anyways, when restarting or shutting down, the screen would go blank but the power, hard drive, wifi, and power light would stay on, when obviously the computer is suppose to shut down or restart. It would simply lock up. So I called HP, and they decieded I needed to send the laptop in, so they overnighted an empty laptop box to me, I overnighted my laptop to HP in Memphis (prepaid label), they worked on it for two days, ended up replacing the motherboard, and then overnighted my laptop back to me. I sent it to them this past Monday, they worked on it Tues-Wed, finished at 9pm on Wed and shipped it that night, so I received it in Jacksonville, FL on Thursday 1pm. I was impressed. The whole time they sent me updates via email to keep me informed of the whole process. So I thought I would share this positive experience with HP to all on this forum.

You would not get that out of dell. HP service is far better. That is why I like HP way more. Now they have to get there machines in line with dell. Like instead of 8600Gs on the Dv9500 a 8700GT or 8800GS. Other then the specs the laptop its self is GRRRREAT!

i would nto have even thought twice about the 9500t when that 30% off coupon hit if it had the 8600gt or better.. i would have been done with dell and awaiting a new hp.. i just wish i could hang out and wait a bit longer but it really sucks not having my laptop for business use.. i hate this

You say it went to Memphis..

Did it go to a company by the name of "Flextronics"? They are 3rd party hired by many OEMS (like Apple, HP, Toshiba, etc.) to do repairs.

They are notorious for bad repairs and physically damaging systems.

Be sure to do a very thorough inspection of your system to make sure it is in the same condition, cosmetically, that it went out in. And then do as much as you can to determine that the hardware is all fully functional.

the laptop did go to Memphis, but there were no signs of it being repaired by an outside source. it is possible to be repaired by another company i guess, but it was not disclosed. either way, they documented the mother board was replaced. I believe it was because after searching through system history, it shows hardware being converted. plus i do not have the lock up problem anymore.

as far as an express warranty or service, i dunno. i bought this laptop early august, it came with a 90 warranty and a 1year warranty. it is a business laptop, i wonder if they treat it different than a consumer laptop. i did call them everyday as well to get an update on the status since i needed my laptop back asap.

because of this experience, i am temping to purchase an extended warranty with a 3 year plan. does anyone have this?
