Sorry if this had already been covered, but I did a search and was not able to easily find an answer to this question.

I was wondering how everyone's video playback to TV experience was using the HDMI cable.

I currently have a dying XPS M1330 and running Hulu to the TV is a process; Fcn+F8 to switch displays takes a couple of minutes and then I have to manually switch audio playback devices to HDMI, and then back to speakers/headphones afterward. I was playing around with someone's Vaio and it was a much smoother process; Fcn + F8 brought up a clickable toggle between display options with no lag, and the audio automagically switched from HDMI and speakers depending on if an HDMI cable was plugged in.

Is the Envy just as simple? I don't have cable so all of my TV watching is done via laptop to HDTV.

I dont have my Envy to look, but I think its like F4 for switching displays
When I attached my HDMI to TV it was quick and simple for audio and video.

Does the audio automatically switch to HDMI?

yeah mine worked fine but defaulted to 720p

I had to go into the CCC, pick displays and stuff, right click on the hdtv, go to configure, and set it up to use 1080p60hz, but after that it was fine.

My Envy 14 switched to 1080p and audio through HDMI automatically.

(But for that matter, so did my HP dv3t with GeForce 105M from last year.)

    ...I'm not sure.

I know there's an audio port for the hdmi (audio is sent over)

but you may have to confuse the computer into thinking you're set on clone or something for it to not get pissed off when there's no video. I know that when the envy is hooked up to a tv if you set the projector settings in windows 7 to laptop, the sound comes from the laptop speakers.

Also go into CCC and turn off overscan, it defaulted to having it automatically set at +15% on the systems I used for some reason.
