Although I have a dv2000 I have not tested the SPDIF jack as of yet. I can probably get to it this weekend if I have some time. As it regards the Brightview screen, given that you managed to dig up a four month old thread that had to have been at least 10-15 pages back, I can only assume that you have crossed multiple topics regarding Brightview. I'd suggest using the search function next time, as we are just beating a dead horse at this point. To give a quick answer however, Brightview makes the colors on the screen brighter and more vibrant, but it also creates a lot of glare in highly-lit areas. So no, you don't need it, but it all comes down to your preference.

Unless you've got a Dolby Digital Live or DTS Connect sound card (or software that will encode ac3 or dts on the fly like ffdshow), your laptop will output 2ch PCM unless you are playing something with a AC3/DTS bitstream.

As far as I know, there are very few Dolby Digital Live or DTS Connect laptops -- just a few Asus notebooks. There are USB and network sound devices that will output Dolby Digital Live, though. http://www.sondigo.com/

does that mean if i am playing a DVD with 5.1 channel surround sound it will only output in 2 channel through the S/PDIF jack? also i have ffdshow on ma old lappy but how would dat make 5.1channel audio on d fly.
as to briteview i have it on my old zv5000z it is great but it is annoying when i use it in clas and i see all the lights reflecting very distracting. i wanted to see a comparisoon btw britevview n non-briteview to know if i could survive without it.
