I have no clue, but does my DV9774ca have SATA2 (3 Gb/s) or only SATA1 motherboard? Has Intel GM965 chipset, if that tells us anything.
I know it has two hard drives, both are WD 160GB, 8MB cache, and at WD site they state that they are only SATA1 (1.5Gb/s).
I was thinking of upgrading to a bit larger and faster (7200) C drive. I notice some for sale with 16MB cache and SATA2 . (I do know I can set the jumper on the HDDs to 1.5Gb/s if need be).

I go to HP site where I used to go often to find stuff for my old DV8120ca and they always had the specs list in detail. Now for my new DV9774ca they don't give that list, if I click on Product Specification link for my model at HP it just gives general "how to" type info only. Oh well.

    Thanks :)

I have a WD SATA-2, the 320 GBWD3200BEVT, and as far as I know, the jumper settings don't do anything to taper it down to regular SATA.

However, I am running the SATA-2 on my dv9000, despite it only being SATA compatible. The drive is picky as to which bay it would operate in though - I was forced to put the drive in bay one. The computer wouldn't boot properly with the WD SATA-2 drive in the second bay.
