I have the hp zv5240 laptop, and it won't read my 1GB SD card. It reads my 64MB card just fine. I've tried my 1GB card in other computers and it works fine. Is there a maximum capacity for SD cards that the zv5000 series can handle? If so, is there a driver or anything I can install so that it will read the 1GB card?

I have a ZV5340US......and the same problem. I have only tried a 128 Memory Stick and a 1 gig SD card. The MS works fine, the SD doesn't work. When I access it, it tells me that I need to format it. But when I click "Yes" to format, it then tells me it can't be formatted. If I use the HP USB Digital Drive and the SD card, it works fine. And my camera connected via USB works fine too.

Texas Instruments driver issue?? Microsoft driver issue?? PCMCIA Card Bus issue??

The digging I've done so far has located very little info......this forum has been the best location for information.

    I will keep digging.

Alrighty then. Looks like I may have to deal with Best Buy or HP on this issue. Can't seem to find any fixes for this issue.

    Hi,
Have you updated the driver for the card reader (TI)?
I have had similar problem on another computer and finally solved it by updating the driver.

I haven't been able to find an updated driver. Is it packaged in with some other driver pack?? I've looked specifically for TI card reader drivers without success.

If you've got a link, I'd give ya a big hug!!

    Thanks

    Hi,
I'm not sure about your model. However, I did find the driver for all ZV5000 series. Here is the link:
    -------------
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?dlc=en&tool=softwareCategory&lc=en&product=385148&cc=us&dest_page=softwareCategory&os=228
    --------------
    (look for the TI driver)

Check your computer H/W config and make sure that the TI chip this driver supports is the same as the one in your computer.

If it's not, then try to locate your model by the following link:
    ----------------
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/topFamily?dlc=en&lc=en&product=18703&os=228&lang=en&cc=us&
    ----------------

Another way to update the driver is through Windows Update... although I never use it.

    Windowgood.

Thanks a million. Well, maybe 10 bucks.

If I type in my specific model number, I get a very short list of drivers/software. But, as you have shown me, if I enter the base ZV5000, I get a nice long list of all of the base drivers. Very nice, and I thank you for that.

But. The TI drivers listed are nothing newer than what I already have. Uninstalling and reinstalling did nothing for me. So I am starting to wonder if maybe the card has an issue. I bought the card from Fry's, so maybe here in a day or two, I will run down there and test out a few different cards to see if that is the issue. The folks at Fry's try hard to make sure things are right.

Thanks again. And I will report back after my trip to Fry's.

    OK.

Fry's was of absolutely no help.

What I did find out is that both the HP 5000 series, and the Compaq 3000 series lappies that use the TI 1620 media reader won't read my Sandisk 1gig SD card. Every other lappy on display could read my card just fine.

A question for 5000 owners. Does anyone have a Texas Instruments UltraMedia Cardbus Controller driver newer than 1.0.1.0, dated newer than 8/8/2003??? There needs to be a newer version than this that will fix my issue. The driver listed in the above links get's me to this date, which seem to be very old.

With these specific P/N's, I have more to work with in my searches.

    Thanks

    Jason

I had the same problem with a Compaq Presario R3000 I bought back in November -- it also uses the TI 1620 chip. However, I have found an updated driver that works with my 1GB Lexar SD card.

You can download the new driver from HP Support -- it has specifically updated firmware to support 1GB SD cards. Note that the driver download page says the download is for XP Tablet PC edition; it'll work on XP SP2 just fine.

    3way~

    Thanks a million.

I had written off using my card reader as I was finding nothing that worked. Tonight, I downloaded that file, uninstalled the old, installed the new, tossed my Sandisk 1gig card in the slot, *Boom*, up pops the task window! WooooHoooo! It works!

    I am card reader bliss.

    Thanks again!

    Hey 5000 series users,
I noticed that the zv5000 and zx5000 series notebooks are covered by the same HP service guide. I thought these notebooks were more different than similar, but apparently we share many of the same driver updates. However, as this thread indicates, some models seem to get updates quicker than others. Why would HP not release this update across the board for all notebooks that use the TI 1620 chip?

Which brings me to my question: what other updates are out there that are designed for other models but are compatible with my zx5078cl notebook? I guess if we'd all search all of the disjointed places where HP posts updates we might find all of the updates we would like for our notebooks. I would expect finding driver updates from HP to be an easier process.

Thanks 3way, I go my zv5000 card reader to work too. However, it's so much slower than my USB 2.0 reader? Any idea on the spec of the TI 1620 or can the performance be improve? Thanks.
