Does anyone know how to fix the SD card reader on the V2000?
    I have
    1. Updated the drivers
    2. Taken in in for servicing
and ti still does not work.
I use a multi-card reader to transfer files via the usb port and it works fine.
When I try it with the SD card reader it freezes and stops responding. I have to then go to the task manager to end task to get out of it.
    Please help

I have the same issue with my V2000. The SD card reader sometimes will function the first time after a reboot for small files (<50K) off the card, but any attempt to read/write larger files causes the Explorer window to freeze and the card must be pulled without using the removable storage control widget in XP. I have sent it in for service with no luck and am now trying to get HP to cross-ship me a new unit.

Attempts to re-install the driver did nothing. I know the card itself is OK since I can read/write it in both my Palm and also an external reader attached to my W2K workstation.

Hello, I wrote earlier on the same problem with my SD card reader. However, I have the DV1000. I have installed drivers, softpaq's, and sent to HP for repair (which they ended up fixing CDRW/DVD drive that had no problem). This is my second DV1000 with the same exact problem and it seems HP still doesnt have a fix. They just want me to keep sending it back for repair. I will let you know if I find a fix to this, as I get the same exact errors.

So I spoke with HP support again and they are going to have me return the unit for service again. This will be the second consecutive repair attempt for this issue. The machine goes out FedEx today and I should have it back no later than Monday 17 Jan. I will report at that time whether they were able to fix the problem.

One thing I did note when I was packaging up the unit for repair, the HP service folks had coded the issue on the service request as "PCMCIA card can't insert" which is not the correct issue. Rather the issue is that SD cards cannot be reliably read or written to. I wonder if this means that the first time around, they didn't even attempt to diagnose the right problem. Yet another problem with the outsourcing of tech support to non-English speaking countries :-(

One other thing, I saw that an F.13 BIOS was available from the HP support site. Downloaded and installed that but it didn't affect the problem.

OK, after sending my machine to HP service for a second time, they claim that they tested the SD card reader with their own SD card and it worked fine. Technicians left a note taped to my machine saying "Tests with our 4-in-1 card worked; check your card." So, based on this I have purchased a new SD card and it should be here tomorrow. I'll give that a shot and see what happens. Will update this thread with my findings.

    Latest update:
I got a new SD card yesterday and tried it. Worked without errors, I was able to move ~30MB of files on and off the card with no issues. So I have submitted a RMA request with the vendor of my other SD card to get it replaced. If that gets replaced and the replacement card works w/o problems, I will declare the issue resolved.

I bought a toshiba 1 gig sd card and it works.
When I try it with a kingston brand sd card it does not work.
So make sure the sd card is compatible with the reader before you buy the sd card
