I have a camera with a 64gb SDXC card - I can read the card though the camera's USB connection, but if I put the SDXC card directly into the SD slot on the laptop it's not recognized. Does SDXC support need a software upgrade to work or is it's hardware (pin configuration) different.
TIA

Here's what I've been able to find out... SDXC and SDHC cards are hardware and electronically identical. The only difference is the file system used on SDXC is exFAT, This is because Microsoft Windows refuses to format any drive larger than 32GB as FAT32 even though the FAT32 specification actually supports a single partition size up to 2TB.
I have verified that this is the case, as I have reformatted my SDXC card as FAT32 and it works fine, so it appears that a driver update from HP would allow SDXC cards to be read/written to directly at sizes up to 2TB.
But... all SD/HC/XC cards and readers need to get the blessings of the SD association, and according to their webpage ( FAQs - SD Association) current SDHC readers will not ever work and you need to have to have a host device that is SDXC compatible... I'm sure they're looking solely at their bottom line and licensing fees! So, we may need a hacked driver version to get this to work.
