it takes about 5 minutes from power up until all the startup processes finish..
that is with all the bloatware still kept. will removing these help much??
5 minutes is ridiculous IMO. my friend's 2 year old dell laptop can pull a 2 minute vista start.
What are your experiences?? and which processes are safe to remove from msconfig without affecting the wireless, bluetooth, fingerprint etc??

Removing bloatware could help a lot + applying latest patches for Vista that improve startup times
I can't tell you about specific processes unless you give a list -

To start off uninstall all the crap/bloatware you don't need and that way, you wouldn't have to use MSConfig. Also remember to uninstall Norton, McAfee or whatever junky antivirus app that came with it.

I agree about the antivirus, if Norton or Mcafee is installed it could be part of the problem. Install something like Antivir. I've reduced the boot time of a brand new computer more than 50% just by changing the antivirus

hmm u can try pc-cillin anti virus too. i find it quite good. when i was using norton my startup time took abt 2 mins. aft un-installing that and using pc-cillin, my boot up time is now abt 50 secs.

It will help alot. I always reformat and do a clean install -

*I once removed those or one of those after I setup a fingerprint. After a restart, I couldn't login any more as it asks for fingerprint or password...... so I spent about 20 hours installing and tuning everything to the way I like it and for a tiny mistake like this I had do a system restore and redo everything again!!! So this time round I haven taken care not to setup any passwords or fingerprints.. but I'm still too scared to touch these.
And what are these? Safe to remove?
