Okay, looking to install an OCZ 60GB SSD in my Envy 17 to run the OS. I want to clone just the actual System/Windows files over and leave the recover partition on the original HDD....is that possible to do? From the looks of it, my SSD isn't big enough to do a full clone on the C: drive that includes the system recovery. Any help is much appreciated.

I wanted to do the same as you but it's too complicated. Do a clean install, it's faster and better.

BTW since I got a SSD my computer is sooooo fast!! Word launches in 500 ms, Photoshop in 6 seconds... You won't regrett this :)

Don't forget...copy your C:\SWSETUP directory to a DL DVD and the TriDef folder (if your Envy is 3D). This way, you maintain whatever HP software you will need later.

Okay I copied the C:\SWSETUP to a Flash Drive but cannot find anything in regards to the TriDef, even though my Envy is 3D....?

I also downloaded all of the drivers off of HP's site; is there anything else I will need in order to do a clean install?

EDIT: Ended up re-downloading it from TriDef's website

    C:\Program Files (x86)\TriDef 3D

Make sure to back that directory up...it has your activation to your Tri Def software. Without it...you end up paying for TriDef

For some reason my 3D didn't come with the software. It was a refurb though.... I ended up getting it off the TriDef website for Free though.

Make sure to back up any files you have on your SSD.

I too bought a 60gb SSD for the OS. It died in a month, Luckily I had all my data on my Data Drive.

So just in case, back up!
