So i have a new Envy 15
really want to make it as fast as i can get, upgraded to 16gb ram so far and now looking at a SSD drive. larger sizes are really expensive so im looking at ways to have say a 120gb SSD for windows and programs and have the standard 750gb hdd as well.
i had an old Lenovo that allowed you to put a second HDD in the DVDROM bay got me thinking and i came across this.
Optical bay HDD module
Now i know the dvdrom is slot loading but surely maybe with a bit of modification it can be done.
I haven't actually pulled apart to check on the DVDROM yet on envy but from the HP parts manual it looks almost standard SATA form factor Optical drive and im guessing the 9.5mm one
So am i crazy even bothering to do this ? or should i just get a more expensive SSD drive and keep USB 3.0 drives around.

You're not crazy if you have the money.
Search around in the Owners Thread. Other people have already done this and they've posted about it. -
