I have an HP dv6z-7000 that I bought about a month and a half ago. I just bought an OCZ Agility 4 256GB SSD to replace the mechanical HDD and gain a little speed for my virtual machines.

I got the drive today, however, I noticed that upon booting with it in, the BIOS showed me an error saying there were no boot devices. However, when I used my Windows install disc, the drive was detected and I was able to install without any issues. But, the laptop refuses to boot off the SSD. I was able to right after the setup rebooted the computer and I am able to boot off of it when I restart the computer, but when it is a cold start it's not detected at all.

Has anyone run into a similar issue before or have some kind of suggestion? I tried looking for a newer BIOS but the one I have is actually newer than the one on HP's website. I verified that the SSD is working both via a SATA-USB adapter and by installing it in my desktop and successfully booting into Windows.

Does your laptop support dual hard drives? Sometimes, notebook may not boot if SSD is installed in secondary hard drive compartment instead of primary one.

Also have you checked boot order in BIOS to ensure SSD drive is primary boot device?

It doesn't support dual hard drives, and there isn't any options in the BIOS to select a boot device.

However, I was able to get it working. I just had to hook the drive up to my desktop and upgrade the firmware to the latest version. Since I did that, it's been working fine!
