I have the latest official HP driver installed (8.882.2.3000) which from what I've read is equivalent to 11.8 AMD Drivers.

HOWEVER, there is a known issue with SWTOR and 11.8, it gives me a black screen on startup, there is audio but no video.

Since their solution is updating drivers, I run into trouble, and it would seem my only option is updating to unsupported drivers directly from ATI(?)

I've tried doing that, downloading the latest 11.12 release here:
    ATI Catalyst? Mobility Display Driver

Before installing, it says it can update the control center and everything else, but not the actual display driver. Installing anyway, it still appears to be using the older HP driver, and the issue remains. I have tried both a clean install and installing on top of the HP driver.

My question is: is there a way to get this driver installed and working? I would even be fine with 11.11 or 11.10. I am not too concerned about keeping switchable graphics functionality.

    Additional information:
    HP Pavilion dv6tqe 6bxx
    ATI Radeon 6770M
    Fixed Graphics enabled in BIOS

To make you feel a bit better ...

The latest official HP driver (8.882.2.3000) is actually equivalent to 11.9 AMD Drivers.

Thanks, SWTOR works and I now have 11.12 installed correctly.

Not sure why the ATI file I tried before didn't work, but oh well.

On a sidenote, I now have quite a few more resolution options and Battlefield 3 performance increased immensely with 11.12. Overall very happy!

if i use this 11.12 driver, will it screw up the ability to use changeable graphics later? am i able to reinstall the HP drivers and it'll access both cards again if i switch them?

Super frustrating. I can't use any drivers above like 11.9 without horrible terrain flickering in BF3. What the hell?

As newer people are getting their new laptops, I just want to report that these drivers work to fix the black screen for SWTOR. So just make sure to install over your current drivers and these will work.

As long as you update the display driver ONLY and DO NOT overwrite the HP CCC install, you should continue to be able to use switchable graphics.

HP has changed their implementation of SG since I got my DV7
Some units now have dynamic switchable graphics.

Mine has permanent fixed(manual) SG, and is an early March 2011 unit.

I generally don't have issues updating the base display driver, as long as it's a higher version number. But whenever HP updates something, its a b**** getting CCC to install correctly.

I don't think overwriting CCC installs is a good idea, even with official driver packages, but to be honest I'm not sure what I should be doing.

I am having this same issue on a dv6t-6c00 that i have just purchased, i know the issue is the driver, clearly from this post and many others, however, and forgive me, im new to all this and have no idea how to go about fixing it. Whenever i download the 12.1 drivers at the end of the install it will tell me that i cannot install due to incompatibility with software/hardware. The swtor forum admin i spoke to seems to think that my version of CCC is not letting me update drivers becuase the CCC believes they are up to date. So again forgive my newness to all this, but how do i go about downloading the drivers "over" or "on top of" the current ones i have?

Edit* Also i have a Radeon switchable graphics, so i dont think i can download the full CCC, just the drivers, i dont want to mess up anything i have going with the SG.

Will this "install on top of " solution work for BF3 also? I mean, will this driver run BF3 for more than 5 minutes without crashing?

How do i check if TurboBoost is activated or not? How do i turn it on /off manually? What should it be on?

I thought TurboBoost was auto.. P:

    Edit:
should i update only the Display Adapter, or CCC aswell?

Why should i disable Turbo mode? Isn't it good that it boosts the processor?

That is not currently a problem though. Only blackscreen?
