If im buying a computer from HP, will they charge me sales tax in all states?
I can either ship to New Jersey or Georgia. Let me know.
THanks!

I believe that notebook purchases are always taxed, even if the shipping origin is out of state. A few reasons for this; one that pops to mind is that each state has certain taxes for recycling and environment fees. I wouldn't be surprised if the companies get harassed by the states so that they make people fork out the dough for large purchases. X% of $1500 is a good sum for the state.

I ran a tax estimation at HP's site, and yes, they'll apply tax to both Georgia and New Jersey shipments.
Too bad you're not in Oregon. They have no sales tax.

You are probably only going to be charged tax if you buy directly from the manufacturer or if the company you buy from has a store/office/wharehouse in your state unless you are in a state without a sales tax. Most states have law under which you are supposed to pay the tax, but enforcement is weak. HP.com used to charge tax only in a few states, but about a year ago changed their policy.
