    Hello hp users.

First of all, greetings to you all, it's my first post on notebookreview.com. :) Anyway, on to the topic:

Last year, I decided to replace the 60G Fujitsu harddisk that came with the nx8220 (apparently, a similar model to nc8320) with a Samsung SpinPoint HM160HC, a 160G disk.

Since my purchase, I have re-installed WinXP SP2 twice on this harddisk, and in both cases, everytime I reboot the machine (after completing the the installation process) CHKDSK runs, finds 3 orphan files, deletes some random files, automatically reboots after the end of the CHKDSK, and then boots up Windows.

First time I experienced this, the boot up got so bad at some point that I had to use the WinXP DVD to repair the Windows partition, but in the end it was simply not bootable anymore. For this reason, I am suspecting CHKDSK is deleting healthy for no apparent reason, slowly making the system more and more unstable.

To check the Windows installation, I have ghosted and restored the ghost file on a third harddisk (not the Fujitsu and not the Samsung). I don't get this problem during reboot on the third disk.

Last time I ran Samsung's HDD checker, it reported no errors, and it runs fine in an external 2.5" case.

The disk is partitioned in two: C:\ has 64 GB and D:\ has the remaining, ie 96 GB. The said notebook doesn't support 48-bit LBA according to some users in the hp forum, but I have partitioned the disk so the computer shouldn't hit into that problem.

Has anyone experienced any compatibility issue with the SpinPoint HM160HC, and what were your solution?

    Thanks!
