My uncle gave me it; he has no use for it anymore. He complained it always got too hot anyways. I took it home and did a fresh install of Windows 7-64, noted it got quite hot indeed. After installing all the drivers, I checked the temps via Hardware Monitor and they were indeed hot... 70-95C. I tore apart the machine today, cleaned the heatsink, fan, and processor (thermal paste), and removed a big dust bunny in the fan shroud. I applied Arctic Silver 5 and now it's idling in the low 40s. The only issue with it now is that it is missing a left mouse button (it works, the black "button" itself is there, but the silver plastic piece has gone missing,) Would it be worth it to buy a new palmrest just to fix this?

Yea, find one on ebay. Theyre pretty cheap, and youll have yourself an almost new laptop. I love finding overheating laptops that can be fixed with new thermal paste, and a cleaning. Hope you enjoy it.

Or that. I once bought an overheating HP Dv6 on craigslist for $40. Cleaned and repasted cpu, and it ran perfectly. Sold it for $220, so a nice $180 profit.

Damn! I hope to do something similar with mine. I ordered a new palmrest today. Everything runs nicely.
