I have a dv1000t and I'm just wondering on why the brightness doesn't change when either on AC power or on batteries? isn't laptops supposed to lessen the screen brightness to save energy when not plug'ed?

    thanks.

This's true if HP laptops come with that feature. Other manufacturers do have power management tool however i.e Toshiba, Sony.. etc, But HP doesn't have one for some reason. What I do to enable that is when on battery mode I move the brightness all the way down and when on ac power I move it all the way up. This way, if I disconnect the power adapter it'll auto adjust the brigtnesss to the way it was last time I modefied it on battery mode ( all the way down ). btw, I have a dv5020us and the power setting in set to Portable/Laptop.

Hmm...I though that all HP laptops(my R3000 does) were capable of dimming their screens when you switch on to the battery. The only thing I have noticed is that it wont decrease the display brightness if you have manually changed the brightness when you are on battery and then continued to work on A/C power without lowering it back down. In such a situation you will have to decrease it to what ever level you want before switching and then it will automatically lower it to that level the next time you are on the battery and vice versa.
