What is your opinion of the difference between the 17.0" WSXGA+ High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1680 x 1050) and the 17.0" WXGA+ High-Definition Ultra HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1440 x 900)? With the latter being $75 more?

the Ultra Brightview has a brighter screen because it has a second lamp.... it means it would use waaay more battery with the screen's brightness turned up

i went for the higher resolution screen, and i LOVE the extra working space

if you're gonna do photoshopping, the higher res might be useful. the ultrabright screen adds an extra lamp for lighting which is good but also reduces battery life. so it depends on what u value most, resolution or screen brightness. I have the normal 1440x900 and the resolution is just fine, ya dont need high res for normal stuff cuz it makes the characters on screen a bit smaller, but ya dont need an extra lamp if ya think the normal screen's brightness is fine.

Just go high-res. The ultra-bright screen seems like a gimmick to me. The "regular" bright screen is plenty bright for me.
