I have Pavilion dv6000, had for about 2 years.

Recently i've been having an issue with my screen. Now as near as i can tell there is no damage to the actual screen it's self. In fact as i right this my screen looks just fine. It's only when I move the lid that I have the problem.

Basically the bottom third of my screen becomes static, a distorted and still image while the upper portions continue to function normally. It seems as though perhaps the casing on the left bottom half of the screen has loosened. When the problem occurs, I can fix it by applying a bit of pressure with two fingers to the side of the screen case most times and other require me to slight twist the screen I guess. Obviously I don't want to continue doing either in case i cause more damage. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem? And if it was something I could simply have resolved at a local repair place?

If the machine were mine, I'd stop twisting and pushing the screen and have it looked at if I weren't comfortable having a look myself. Guessing here, but I think you've probably just got a cable that has loosened over time.

If you search the HP site, I'd imagine you can probably find a manual for your machine if you're interested in checking things out yourself.

I'll look into that but I admit i'm a bit wary of messing around with the screen

Empathy: I have the exact same issue and the "fix" works the exact same way for me. I am very disappointed with this unit. This is the third problem I've had with it in the last 11 months ... unit is 18 months old. Please let me know if you find a resolution. HP is no help. This is the last HP unit I will ever buy.
