I like high resoultions. I use 1280x1024 on my 17 desktop. Im getting the 17' widescreen dv900t and cant decide which screen to get. The choices are

    1. 17.0" WSXGA+ BrightView Widescreen (1680x1050)
BrightView improves color contrast in your images and video.

    2.17.0" WXGA+ Ultra BrightView Widescreen (1440x900)
Ultra BrightView offers an improved color gamut by 72%.

Now is the improved color gamut by 72% worth the resolution drop? I will be using this laptop for graphic design and playing games such as world of warcraft. Can someone help me here?

I would go for option 1.

For graphic design, either one will do but the first is a better option as it gives you a better resolution and thats a plus in design.

For games, it wont matter which one you get cuz you wont be playing any modern game with those resolutions, the graphics card isnt powerful enough. most likely you will be playing at 1028x768

Hi, here are the approximate pixel sizes for the mentioned displays:
Your current 17" screen running at native 1280X1024 ~0.263mm2.
Option 1: The HP WSXGA (1680X1050) 17" laptop display ~0.218mm2.
Option 2: The HP WXGA (1440X900) 17" laptop display ~0.254mm2.
So it means that option 2 will give you a similar real font size to your current view while option 1 will be smaller. If you enjoy your current viewing size and want it to be even smaller+gain desktop space, then go for option 1.
I personally find that WSXGA is too small for comfortable reading but it is better for image editing due to the extra desktop real-estate, less scrolling etc..

How did you calculate that? That's exactly the type of comparison I've been looking for to help me chose my next laptop!
Can you do the same for me?

    Current is 12.1" at 1024x768

    options for new are:
    15.4" at
    1680x1050 or
    1920x1200 or
    14.1" at
    1440x900

    Please? Pretty please with sugarfrosting?
