Hi everyone, this is my first post here and I would like to thank all of those who help us confused people out lol. If anyone could help me find the bottom of my problem I would be very grateful. First off I just got my new dv9000t the second week of january, and starting in march whenever I would close my laptop lid if it was still on and the volume was not muted I got a very loud high pitched noise. It was almost like some sort of interference but I dont know from where it would be coming from. My second problem however is more major. Last night I was using my laptop on battery power to type a paper down the hall from me. I came back and plugged it in and forgetting I had left it in max battery mode, it had went into hibernation when I went back about a half hour later. I got it out of hibernation and everything was alright so I left it again and came back around another hour later and my backlight had completely went out! There is no response to changing brightnesses etc but if you shine a flashlight at the screen you can see the desktop. I slightly recall posts having to do with latch problems on dv9000's but cannot specifically recall what happened. I contacted hp already and they are getting back to me tomorrow so I can have it shipped out for repairs. I was wondering though if I did something wrong, or if maybe if something one of my roomates might have did and didnt tell me about that may have caused my backlight to fail so early. Like I said, the computer is only three months old. If it was indeed a manufactures defect, I've about had it with hp productsMy 9000 was a free upgrades for problems I had with hp when they had my old 8000 in for repairs for over 2 months! I am worried what would cause this situation to happen and what would need to be done to correct it. Sorry for the long rant but any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried pressing & holding Fn-F8, in the off chance that it has just gone very dim? Sometimes there is a glitch and windows gets a bit confused.
Also, you shouldn't close the lid while the power is still on. It traps heat in, and warms up the screen. -
Yes I contacted HP technical support and they had me do that and reinstall the ram but nothing working. It has to be some kind of glitch because once and awhile I can get the screen to flash back on. Oh well I guess I will just have to let HP take care of the issue which is what I was worried about lol.
