The screen on my dv2700t would occasionally black out while all the lights on the keyboard are still blue. It's kind of like the computer is in standby, except that no matter how I move my mouse or tap the keyboard, the screen just won't turn back on. I had to hold down the power button to turn it off first and then turn it back on. What problem could this be? Help please.

May I ask if it is an Intel or AMD model? Particular with AMD model, please contact HP tech support and ask to set up a repair order under Warranty Service Alert, and alart number is 07122001.

This is a known problem and HP will replace the motherboard up to 24 months from date of purchase.

The letter T after the model number means Intel.

If you move the laptop to a bright area can you faintly make out what was previously on your screen?

I am having a similar problem but on mine, it appears that the lamps are being shut off for some reason.

I am not sure. I can't really test it right now because it only happens occasionally. Could you guys tell me the possible problem and solution for each situation?

The firmware update also can address the problem if the computer can still be turned on and used. Unfortunately I've seen these problems on Toshibas and HP more often.

BIOS/firmware for the motherboard. HP has released a huge amount of BIOS for many notebooks in May to July to address many hardware issues similar to Dell's overheated GPU problem.

The interesting thing is, many notebooks which as the mainboard replaced for the advisory have newer BIOS revision than the ones on HP sites.

BTW, in Canada, HP does not use any alphabets to distinguish Intel/Amd models after the series numbers. There's no such thing as DV2700t, instead there are tons of confusing model numbers like DV2710/2715/2910..etc..

Does this happen when you put it to sleep or hibernate? That's what happens to mine and it also happens only sometimes. I cant get around it, so I just restart it(and yes it does ****** **** me off)
