How does the best screen option you can get on the HP 9500 with the brightview and stuff compare to the best screen you can get on the inspiron 1720 with truelife? Is the 9500 screen glossy?

Yes, the screen is glossy on the 9500t. The screen on my 9500 is very bright as it is with out the Ultra Bright View. I opted for the 1680x1050 rather than the 1400x900 offered in the Ultra screen. It's a better choice as the screen is plenty bright and beautiful as it is plus with 1680x1050 you get a higher res.

I opted for the Ultra Bright on my DV9000 series laptop. 1440x900 is the max but it's uhm...I dunno bright and glossy. Unlike other laptops when you first look at them.

the hp pavilions are multimedia machines, so glossy screens work better for most people who use them

From what I've heard about Ultra BrightView, Ultra BrightView uses dual lamps in the display, making the display brighter. However, it uses more battery, and it is often way too bright for some people. It's so bright, that it could even be considered an "outdoor-viewable" display (if you can put up with the glare). There was a picture of someone with a dv9000 series PC that was outdoors, and you could still see the screen just fine.

Standard BrightView is plenty bright for most people. If I had a choice, I would opt for the higher resolution.

And yes, all Pavilion screens are glossy.
